Expert Advice for Creating a Web Page

One major point that I believe can cause a viewer to leave the website are large or colorful .gifs that play. These usually detract from the page and seem like they would harm your eyes. (Example: http://www.dokimos.org/ajff/ ) There is a link to a checklist of web site do’s and do not’s ( http://www.cyberbee.com/design.pdf )which I found helpful. I agree with them that the home page needs to be appealing to the eye with out over doing it and becoming an eye sore. Also, music or streaming video on entering without clicking the play button is generally a bad move. To connect with a web site there should be little lag time which could just be the users Internet connection, but don’t add to the problem with large images, video, and music all attempting to load at once.

There is another section on content and information available on the web page. You have to remember that the user is usually not there for a project like this, but actually there FOR the content. There needs to be organized and sufficient infomation to keep the user hooked to stay on that page and possibly refer the page to others.

WHHS Web Site Review

August 28, 2007 at 8:26 pm (Uncategorized)

Compared to the previous website, this version of West Hills online is much more appealing to the eye in a simplified version. For the website, the only thing that I can think of is that compared to the other sites the web site has a strangely high loading time. This website has information on West Hills High School ranging from faculty contact info to upcoming events. With the wide range of content students, parents, and the faculty find useful. I rembember on the old web site there was never full content on all of the sports teams. Currently there is no or little sports information on the site. I really only need to use the web site for the ASB store to pay for AP tests, look up teacher info, or find out when school’s off days are such as labor day.
